This is the industry where workers drink the mostThis is the industry where workers drink the mostEven though many people have stuck to their Dry January pledge, the month is almost over which means happy hours after work will soon be in full swing. Now though we are way past the days of Mad Men-level in-office drinking, there are still certain industries that are more in support of their employees drinking at work.According to a new survey fromNiznik Behavioral Healthof 1,010 full-time U.S. workers the top 5 industries that allow or sponsor alcohol consumption the most are theseTechnologyConstructionMarketingArts, Entertainment and RecreationInformation Services and Data Processingleid a team player?Holiday parties open bars and the occasional paid for happy hour are common but at companies including GitHub and Yelp have beer on tap. Kara Sowles, an employee of tech company Puppet, told Wired, In the tech industry, alcohol is currency. It is often used to reward employees for perfor mances, which seems a bit unfair to non-drinking employees. Over a third of those surveyed said they abstain from alcohol at company events. But it isnt just tech. Many companies look at alcohol as a way to bond their employees. After all, it is a social lubricant. The survey found that 24% of respondents said drinks were part of team bonding events. Those who worked at government were the biggest group to report alcohol being part of team bonding activities. Nearly 50% of respondents agreed that drinking with their boss or coworkers will improve their relationship and 23.8% believed that drinking with their boss could lead to better job opportunities.Sober curiousAnd unfortunately, if you skip these events because you dont want to drink, 45% agreed they could be viewed as a non-team player by their boss. But it seems that even those who enjoy drinking would be up for alternative dry company activities.Of the group of workers who like drinking at work events, 30% said they would trade drinking events for sponsored lunches, massages, fitness training, and permission to bring pets to work.

3 of millennials say they would dump their partner for a $37,000 raise
3 of millennials say they would dump their lebensgefhrte for a $37,000 raiseAlmost 1/3 of millennials say they would dump their partner for a $37,000 raiseWhat would you be willing to sacrifice to get ahead in your career? This is a question every working professional faces, and now, one survey has answers. When financial services companyCometsurveyed 364 single working millennials without children, they found that millennials were willing to sacrifice a romantic relationship for the right price.Survey A big promotion can be worth more than a relationshipMillennials in the survey admitted they would be willing to remain single for 11 years, put off a wedding for seven years, and delay having children for a life-changing promotion. In fact, 32% of single millennials said they would dump a partner if they got a raise. On average, respondents said $37,000 would be enough to end a relationship and a $36,000 raise would be enough to delay getting into a new one. The top answer these mille nnials gave for not getting into a relationship was Im picky, and surprisingly not I am focusing on my career, which came in fourth.Once they found the right person, more millennials were willing to make sacrifices in their career for a relationship. The overwhelming majority of respondents (86%) said they would move to another city if their partner was offered a better job and more than half of millennials were also willing to go the extra mile and travel to another country if it helped their partners career.Millennials questioning value of relationships is normalOverall, the survey shows that millennials are using their twenties and early thirties to explore who they are and what they value before settling on a particular life path with any one person. Psychologist Jeffrey Arnett has coined a phrase for this time period back in the 1990s - emerging adulthood. Under Arnetts theory, emerging adulthood is a distinct life stage of identity exploration. Millennials need this time to f igure out what they want out of work and love. Sometimes, this exploration leads to questions about what really matters, and the resulting answers may mean that romance goes on the back burner.

3 Reasons You Should Replace Meetings with Huddles - Spark Hire
3 Reasons You Should Replace Meetings with Huddles - Spark HireBusiness meetings are often important and necessary. However, are you having too many long meetings that seem to buck productivity? Have you thought about replacing those drawn out meetings with shorter and more productive huddles? When implementing huddles in your business, you will see an increase in productivity, engaged employees, and quick solutions to problems.1.Encourages productivityIf you are having long and frequent meetings, chances are you are cutting into valuable production time.Ask yourself this question Is the time Im allotting for this meeting of value to the company and employees? When you replace long meetings with huddles, you are condensing the time and information that is discussed within the huddle. Huddles typically last 15 or 20 minutes at the longest. Everyone in attendance must be completely prepared for the huddle in order for it to be effective. This means when employees are asked for updates o n certain projects, they must be immediately prepared to share the latest lokalitt. There is no time for shuffling papers and trying to rememberduring a huddle. The purpose of a huddle is to address status updates and any problems in a short amount of time so that everyone can get back to work, increasing productivity.2.Energizes employeesDuring your next long meeting, take a moment to look around at all of your employees and observe their reactions. You may find that some of your employees are gazing off into the distance with a deer in the headlights look. A few employees are probably checking email on their smart phones or laptops and there always seems to be that one employee who just cant seem to stay awake. Your employees are not engaged.During a huddle, everyone is standing and alert because when it is their time to provide updates or respond, they need to do so quickly. Because huddles are short, there is no need for chairs. I recommend that you conduct your huddles in a loca tion where no one is tempted to grab a chair and sit down. This also ensures that the huddle continues at a quick pace, encouraging everyone to be prepared and stay on topic. When you replace your lengthy meetings with huddles, you will notice more energy from your employees. Not only will they be alert during the meeting, but they will also be eager to get back to work, maintaining their motivation.3.Effectively handles problemsOftentimes, during long meetings, discussions can take a huge left turn when someone brings up a problem. Everyone has input and everyone has the right solution, causing your meeting to deviate off course for the next half hour.During a huddle, when someone mentions an issue that has them stuck, the protocol is for another employee to quickly volunteer to help with the problembased on their position and knowledge of the problem. The issue is not addressed then and there, but rather after the meeting. This allows everyone to be able to go back to work and be p roductive, while the most qualified individual is able to help the employee with the issue, one on one.Have you tried replacing your meetings with huddles? Please share your experiences in the comments below.Image Goodluz/BigStock.com

They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile. - Vince Lombardi Good leaders make people feel that theyre at the very heart of things, not at the periphery. Everyone feels that he or she makes a difference to the success of the organization. When that happens people feel centered and that gives their work meaning. - Warren G. 9 steps for nailing a job interview and succeeding
9 steps for nailing a job einstellungsgesprch and succeeding9 steps for nailing a job interview and succeedingNatalie and Emily Levine, Managing Director and VP, respectively, at Career Group Inc. know a lot about hiring practices. Its their family business. So we asked them to share the 9 tips you need to know for the sometimes scary interview practice.Knowledge is power in the case of the old one-on-one.1. Know your resume inside outKnow it better than the palm of your hand. You should come prepared to tell your story It is vital that you are able to talk about your education and career trajectory without looking at your resume while doing so.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and more2. Dress for the interviewDont underestimate the importance of company culture Every firm has their own feel and its important to dress accordingly. When interviewing somewhere corporate, whether it be a fi nance or real estate firm, its a must to dress the part and wear a beautiful suit with a crisp white button down. When interviewing at a creative firm, whether it be an advertising company or a contemporary fashion brand, make aya your attire is a reflection of that. Skinny black jeans with a blouse and a cute blazer is the right direction.3. Make sure you know where youre going and arrive earlyNever start an interview off on a bad foot Being on time is considered late. Google maps and Waze are here for a reason So, take advantage and map out your drive in advance. Always prepare for traffic and leave time for some parking difficulty.4. Be able to articulate why you are a good fit for the jobIf you cant explain why you are the right fit for the job, dont expect to get the job This is your time to shine and its crucial that you exude the confidence necessary to land your dream job. Make sure to always use real life examples to leverage yourself and speak to what makes you stand out.5 . Talk about the job thats open, not about the growth pathPeople want to feel like you want to prove yourself and earn your stripes.Too often candidates talk about growth too soon and consequently dont land the job Ambition is great, and goal oriented individuals should always be rewarded, but always remember you are interviewing for an open position and will need to prove yourself in that role first Its better to talk about wanting to stay with a company long term and really grow with a company and create a home for yourself at your place of work. That way there is no misunderstanding that you are expecting an immediate promotion.6. Research the company and who youre meeting withDont expect a firm to hire you if you dont know anything about it Just as important as it is to know your story, background, and resume, its equally as important to know the DNA of the company you are interviewing with.7. Come prepared with questionsAlways make sure to have at least 5 questions ready when you go on an interview. Chances are a few of them will be answered before you even get to ask them, so its best to write down several beforehand to ensure you are prepared Make sure you ask about the culture of a company, how the company is evolving, and what is important to them. Steer away from asking about salary, hours, benefits on the first round interview.8. Really be able to articulate why you left former positionsAlways be prepared to speak about why each position ended. Make sure to always stay as positive as possible in explaining why a position came to an end.9. Know your own FACTSIf you cant remember the facts pertaining to your education and career path, how can you expect a new employer to trust you? If you are not able to accurately and quickly state facts ranging from your own resume (compensation history, dates on the resume, etc). firms will have reservations in proceeding. This article originally appeared on Create + Cultivate. You might also enjoyNew neuroscience r eveals 4 rituals that will make you happyStrangers know your social class in the first seven words you say, study finds10 lessons from Benjamin Franklins daily schedule that will double your productivityThe worst mistakes you can make in an interview, according to 12 CEOs10 habits of mentally strong people
